There are some comments regarding laowhy86(c-milk) story. They took a taxi ride without cash, promise to pay the taxi driver after his wife got home getting the purse. The man demanded the money, stupidly believing they were trying to scam him. At that time, his wife, who spoke the local dialect, instead trying her best to calm and assure the taxi driver that they would pay him, took out the camera to film him. (probably at his instruction to film some bad Chinese behavior). The taxi driver got mad, knocked down the camera and slapped her. And the civilized and chivalrous laowhy86 in order to defend the honor of his lady, hit hard on this poor taxi driver’s face, aiming at the eye, and broken the bone under the eye. The result was that he was ask by Chinese police to pay this taxi driver 6000RMB (less than $1000) for the taxi driver’s injury.
It it is happened in the west, one can make a criminal case of assault for hitting another person’s face and broken the bone under the eye. You can be forever labeled as a person capable of cause serious physical hame to another human being. It will be in your criminal record, forever haunt you when you looking for jobs, renting a apartment or taking loan. The lawyer fee could be 10 time more than you paid for that poor man.
As for the tax driver, he could be just exhaust after a long shift, took you as customers without quite paying attention to what you said. So when he saw you two got off the car without the routine payment, he got upset, thinking that you were scamming him.
One things for sure, the colonial time of noble superior white men beating up the dirty natives as they like without any consequence has long gone.
