It looks like Duffy’s time away from music is coming to an end: the soulful Welsh singer, who took a break from music back in 2011, will make her UAE debut with a performance at October’s Atelier/Festival. Duffy, known for her ’60s-inflected hits Mercy and Warwick Avenue, will join previously announced headliner 50 Cent at the one-day music festival, which will take place at Meydan on October 19. The performance is something of a comeback for the singer, who in February last year announced her intention to take a step back from music following disappointing sales of her second album, Endlessly. “Duffy is taking a break before starting work on her next album,” said her management at the time. She went back into the studio in February, working with US rapper/producer David Banner, and registered new music in March — leading to much speculation but the singer, who once said she’d like to be a recluse but didn’t want to disappoint her fans, has been tight-lipped about the tracks. Thankfully, it was confirmed when last week, Duffy’s friend and singer Rumer said in an interview she had heard the new tracks. “I love the new stuff I’ve heard from Duffy’s new album, of course — she’s a good friend of mine and I just think she is so talented and amazingly gifted; she’s amazing.” Tickets for the concert are on sale at TheAtelierWorld.com. tabloid! will be announcing another act for the festival tomorrow and on Thursday.
