Look out world, Skylar Grey isn't just along for the ride!
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter has already worked with heavy-hitting artists like Rihanna, Eminem and Diddy. Skylar actually co-wrote the three versions of Emimem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" and was featured as a guest vocalist on Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor" and Kaskade's "Room For Happiness." Now she's focusing on her own music.
"It was a very unexpected song for me," Skylar says about "C'mon Let Me Ride" featuring Eminem.
More known for her melancholy sound, Skylar wanted to show "that other side of my personality, the dirty, fun, goofy side," she says.
In the music video (which she reassures us is a spoof), "I start cutting up girls with a chainsaw, giving them three boobs, I put one girl's head on backwards," Skylar tells us. "A little demented I guess." Yeah, maybe just a little.
Skylar's love for hip-hop started way back. "The first hip-hop album I bought was The Marshall Mathers LP," she says. "I fell in love because it's so artful, but it was hip-hop."
When she ultimately got to meet her hip-hop idol, "He was definitely a little bit intimidating," Skylar says. "But I got past that really fast--he started joking around with me right away."
Eminem will also be executive producing Skylar's debut album, Don't Look Down, which will be released later this year.
"Every piece of advice he's given me has been right on point," says Skylar.
