On 1 April 2003, he jumped from the 24th floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel.He left a suicide note saying that he had been suffering from depression. And as rumors about the cause of his death spread, Cheung's family requested the media to let Cheung rest in peace, and not to sensationalize his sexual orientation and reasons for suicide.
