The soundcheck for the LPU Summit: Linkin Park played VICTIMIZED/QWERTY mashup and The Catalyst
The Q&A starts at around the 11:50 mark, summary below:
How do you keep your voice that powerful and energetic at every show?
Chester said he doesn’t practice screaming very often but he does sing every day, after a show he gives himself an “ooo” in the morning to see if his voice is good for the day. He does a lot of vocal warmups, drinks a lot of water, and gets plenty of sleep.
Are you continuing with your solo projects, Dead by Sunrise (Chester) and Fort Minor (Mike)?
- Chester said he doesn’t know what he’ll do with Dead by Sunrise he said “we’ll see what happens with that,” he mentioned he’s working with Stone Temple Pilots and mentioned the EP coming in October, he also mentioned the US STP tour in September and the show they’ll be playing in Japan. He said working with STP has been fun and it’s great.
- Mike said he doesn’t have much of an answer, he said the Fort Minor thing was a lot of fun. He never wants to consider Fort Minor as “over” but he said he doesn’t know where it’s at right now.
How was the typhoon?
Joe answered that the typhoon was wonderful
How’s it like working with Rick Rubin and how does it bring inspiration, how’s it different working with Rick?
- Chester says they’re a very self-contained group in terms of their writing and creativity, and they’re very blessed to have Mike in the band and they spearhead day-to-day production of the songs and what they’re writing, and when you’re in the band it’s easy to get caught up and excited and what you’re working on. When Rick Rubin comes in, he does a good job of telling them what he likes they’re working on and what he doesn’t like, better than anyone can. Rick gives the space to work and being creative, giving them goals, and getting them there. Chester said Rick is like the captain of a ship, the captain doesn’t really work he said Linkin Park is like the crew on the ship, they make it move, operate, keep it running, clean and gets the ship from A to B and Rick sits in his perch making sure that they’re doing their jobs the best they can.
- Brad and Joe do a Rick Rubin phone call comedy routine (starts at 18:40)
