Francesco Baccini was born in Genoa (Italy). He learned to play the
piano when he was still a child, studying the great composers of the
past. In his early twenties he discovered pop music and rock and this
discovery was life changing for him. He then began performing in clubs
of his city overcoming his natural shyness. After many attempts, in
1988, with the imposition of the absurd pseudonym of "Espressione
Musica", he published the single "Mamma, dammi i soldi".
It wasn't until 1989 though that he published his first LP,
"Cartoon", which allowed him to establish himself among the young
artists of Saint Vincent and to win the Tenco Award for best debut
album. In 1990 he released "Il pianoforte non è il mio forte" containing
the song "Genoa Blues", a duet with Fabrizio De Andrè. Also in 1990,
together with "Ladri di biciclette", he won the Festivalbar with the
single "Sotto questo sole".I
