It has happened again. Another PH was mauled by a leopard last week. This time the attack took place in Zimbabwe, and the PH involved was Chap Esterhuizen of Martin Pieters Safaris. Subscriber Aaron Baker says he was hunting with his brother Mike, who shot and wounded a leopard in the Omay North CAMPFIRE Area late one evening. They followed up on the cat the next morning and jumped it only 20 yards from where they had stopped searching the night before. The big tom dodged the hunters and took cover in thick grass, from where it charged them. A round from a .458 broke its shoulder, but the cat spun around and launched itself at Esterhuizen. The cat bit Esterhuizen in the chest, knocking him down. The PH was able to push the cat off momentarily only to have it lock onto his left hand and wrist. Lying on his back, Esterhuizen succeeded in kicking the leopard off of him, but it remained clamped onto his arm. At that point, Baker's brother managed to get a clear shot at the animal, successfully killing it five feet from where the attack began. Esterhuizen was flown out by private plane to a hospital in Bulawayo. Both of his calves were lacerated from the leopard's claws. He also had four puncture wounds in the chest and multiple bites
