Ranger Estiaan came across this interesting sighting of hyena cubs feeding on a juvenile cheetah at one of the 4 active hyena dens in our area. The carcass was most likely brought to the den by some of the adult hyenas.
How exactly the young cheetah was killed we are unsure of but cheetahs often fall prey to lions & leopards. It was most likely killed by lions and the carcass was found by the hyenas. Competition amongst the top predators in the Kruger National Park is fierce and they often kill each other to eliminate the competition.
