JOHNNY’S: THE FACTS
Itis 9 a.m. on Thursday.
DetectiveRay Broadmall of the Chicago Police Department is just coming down from theroof of Johnny’s, a pool hall andbar at 549 Meadow Road. (Chicago is a large city in the state of Illinois inthe United States.)
"Therewas a break-in at Johnny’s," he tells you. "We pickedup two guys for it."
Broadmallsays he can’t tell you anythingelse at the moment. He says to check back in to see the arrest report later inthe afternoon.
InsideJohnny’s, manager HankWong, 44, tells you what he learned from police. The two men broke through aback window at about 4:25 in the morning to enter the bar, setting off a silentburglar alarm. Wong shows you footprints outside the broken window. Inside, abarstool had been set under the window.
JenniferCromwell, 56, a waitress, is sweeping up glass from under the window."This wasn't like this yesterday," she says.
Wongsays he has no idea what the two men might have been looking for. He has notfound anything stolen yet.
TroyDelmer, 33, is manager of Bill's Breakfast Shop, which is across the streetfrom Johnny’s. He says he sawsome of the action. "I was just pulling my muffins out of the oven,”he says. “It was about 5 a.m.I had my muffins done and was working on my honey-butter. Well, I looked up andsaw two men run from behind Johnny’s, and then therewere these cops everywhere. Well, not really. There weren’t that many. Justthree of them, actually. It didn't take them long. Those two guys didn't evenmake it out of the parking lot when the cops got them. Those cops werefast."

Youstop by the police station later in the afternoon to have a look at the arrestlog and find the information you need. The two men’snames are George Butner, 38, of 12 Lark Court Lane, and Max Brewster, 24, of620 Willow Road. They're being held in the Cook County Jail and charged withburglary, resisting arrest and vandalism. Bail for each of them is $15,000. (Ifpeople who are arrested can pay the bail money, they are released from jailuntil their trial.)
