Against the twilight, the combined colors of rosy clouds and horizon drop into the rivers confuse one's vision to distinguish between the clouds and the ponds. It is beside this picture with profusions of colors that a flock of sheep are lowering their heads feeding by the riverside. Hardly not a one of them would care to raise and take a moment's delight in the picturesque dusk. They are, perhaps, taking use of every second to enjoy their last chew before taking leave. This is a scene of the Yellow River bank in which the shepherd disappears leaving no hints as to where he is resting himself. Only the sheep, however, are gleefully rejoicing the dusk. The succulent weeds have provided the sheep with over-sufficient nutritions that make them grow as plump as dolls. Approaching near them, you would subconsciously take note of their lily-white teeth and a variety of innocent expressions on their faces which would fill your heart with adoration if you stare them still longer.

As every inch of land in urban areas is worth much and land price is soaring at such a high speed that it will presumbly grow still higher in the days to come, to owe a small garden has become more and more a matter of extravagence.
In my mind, however, everyone is sure to have a small flower bed of his own, namely, our inner world. There is a need for human beings to exploit fully their intelligence as is the case with their inner world. Perhaps what really distinguishes between men and animals, apart from diverse prospects which are commonly known, lies in that human beings have an inner world which animals don't have. Heart is in effect no more than an important organ whereas the inner world constitutes a landscape which gradually takes its form under the constant influence from the outside world. So great is the importance that everyone attaches to the conditions of his heart and those of his closet that once an inconsequent tremble of the heart would lead him to enduring anxiety. But of course not every one pays that much attention to the imperceptible change of his heart and that of his beloved ones.

Chinese people have never, since ancient times, regarded mortal beings as the highest of all creatures whose reflection takes a proportion with all others on earth in both respects of philosophy and arts, but not as an absolute dominator. Therefore, our agitation and dismay, the intensity of which usually grows with the expansion of one's desire and ambition, are much less that those of the westerners. Since people in rural society took far less material enjoyment in life than people in industry society, their needs are comparatively less. In addition, ancient Chinese took the motto of "not confined nor driven by material" as the philosophy of life. It doesn't mean that we lack moneygrubbers but that they would have been dwarfed when compared with those similar characters moulded by Moliere and Balzac. Most of the Chinese are of mild, content and guileless disposition so that they can be easily satisfied than western people.

Are there any standards available on measuring the significance of one's life?   Hard pressed as it is to put forward an absolute one, it will not be so to estimate the very meaning of it by simply how one treats his life and whether he takes an positive attitude towards life.
Throughout ages, the accomplished men and women, almost without exception, take their lives seriously. As long as they live in this world, they devote themselves wholeheartedly to work and study than let time slip by in vain. The same is true of the common laborers, politicians and thinkers of our great country at all ages.

我的翻译(今天这篇有点难):In terms of interpersonal relations, we should avoid being too romantic. Human beings are really funny in that their attention is prone to be drawn to the merits of a new acquaintance. This tendency may be compared to the experience of dining in a new restaurant where you will be greatly impressed by the cold dish and then the first few courses can also be appreciated. However the more you eat the more sober you become until when the dinner ends up with all the flaws exposed. In consequence, your joy would give way to anger; your praise to criticism; your approval to dissatisfaction. The reasons for such a reversal are as follows: In the first place as you start eating you are in hunger, and chaff tastes sweet as honey and vice versa. Secondly, upon lifting your chopsticks in a new restaurant, you were overwhelmed by the feeling of freshness as was mocked in the saying that a newly-built latrine smells good." This can be called "the de-familiarization effect".
